En 1983 hice una de mis primeras exposiciones en la galería Primer Plano de Barcelona, una selección de fotografías del centro del Barcelona, lo que ahora se llama “street photography”. Un centro de Barcelona muy distinto del actual, no tan masificado y donde los turistas eran la excepción, donde se mezclaba la gente del barrio y los visitantes de otros barrios de la ciudad, y donde como ahora se podían ver espectáculos callejeros.

El 1983 vaig fer unes meves primeres exposicions a la galeria Primer Plano de Barcelona, una selecció de fotografies del centre del Barcelona, el que ara s'anomena “street photography”. Un centre de Barcelona molt diferent de l'actual, no tan massificat i on els turistes eren l'excepció, on es barrejava la gent del barri i els visitants d'altres barris de la ciutat, i on com ara es podien veure espectacles de carrer.
Rosa Martínez Rochina va escriure una crítica de l'exposició en què em vaticinava un futur prometedor com a fotògraf, no sé si hauré complert les expectatives que diposito en el seu escrit, segurament haver arribat fins aquí segurament té prou mèrit. El que si sé, és que segueixo amb el mateix esperit i il·lusió, però això si, amb més experiència, 42 anys no són debades.
Aquesta és la fotografia del cigar a què fa referència l'escrit. Era un negatiu subexposat i vaig haver de donar-li un bany de ferrocianur per recuperar detalls a les ombres, tot i així, era un negatiu molt difícil de copiar. Fa uns anys vaig digitaliytzar el negatiu i el vaig poder treballar amb Photoshop, aquesta és la versió digitalitzada.

In 1983 I had one of my first exhibitions at the Primer Plano gallery in Barcelona, a selection of photographs of the centre of Barcelona, what is now called “street photography”. A very different centre of Barcelona from today, not so crowded and where tourists were the exception, where people from the neighbourhood and visitors from other neighbourhoods of the city mixed, and where, as now, street performances could be seen.
Rosa Martínez Rochina wrote a review of the exhibition in which she predicted a promising future for me as a photographer. I don't know if I have fulfilled the expectations she placed in her writing, surely having gotten this far is quite an achievement. What I do know is that I still have the same good spirit, but with more experience, 42 years are not in vain.
This is the photograph of the cigar that she refers to in the writing. It was an underexposed negative and I had to give it a ferrocyanide bath to recover details in the shadows, even so, it was a very difficult negative to copy. A few years ago I digitalized the negative and I was able to work on it with Photoshop, this is the digitalized version.
