Joan Tomás - Barcelona 1958. He became interested in photography at a very early age.

Starting out as an autodidact, he trained in London at Ealing College of Higher Education.

During his professional career he has developed institutional, editorial and advertising projects and commissions and has worked for the film, music and fashion industries, specialising as a portrait artist.

As a portrait artist he likes to give a natural and fresh approach to his portraits, with simple and direct ideas.

He also has been involved in intense social activism, using community art and urban art as a tool for social integration, raising awareness of groups and claiming rights.

In recent years he has developed several projects that are somewhat distant from the most strictly photographic practices, working with collaborators and accomplices such as Fanel, Aina Núñez, Marta Peribáñez or OBQ

Projects where the process and the experiences lived during the process become buried protagonists and not explained or explicit, where the important thing becomes the lived and shared experience. Processes of searching for new ways to explain and show the projects. Using and mixing different technical and linguistic resources: life stories, projections, installations, publications, video, writing, participatory workshops, photographic archives, collage, sound, AI, music, elements that enrich and add layers to his language and his way of expressing and explaining himself.

Facing the projects with dedication and working without a net, considering the process itself as a learning of new techniques and uses of new technologies and languages. With a premise that may seem suicidal: ignorance is very daring, where each project is a challenge and a laboratory and an exploration, where everything is possible.
